70s pubs
7 Answers
I'm currently writing a novel set in 1973, when I was not of drinking age. Can anyone help me with what draught and bottled beers would have been on sale in a country pub (West Sussex, Hampshire sort of area) at that time, also what pub food, crisps/ nuts etc. Also I remember as a child our local pub used to serve bowls of cubes of cheese, cheeselet biscuits and salted nuts - was this widespread?

What about roast spuds on the bar on a Sunday lunch time?
Also: pork scratchings, pickled eggs/ gherkins. Scotch eggs under a clear perspex lid - warmed(unintentionally!). Not forgetting Mr Cockle / Winkle - depending where you lived - the mobile seafood seller. Probably responsible for more sickies than the pubs he sold in.
