Can somebody tell me the correct way to drink this stuff, the way with all the sugar etc? many thanks

How to drink Absinthe:-
The classical method is to pour an ounce of Absinthe into a glass. Next place the Absinthe spoon on the rim of the glass and an appropriate number of sugar cubes near the slots. Now pour about five ounces of water, v.e.r.y. s.l.o.w.l.y, over the sugar to dissolve it.
The other way to drink Absinthe involves dunking a spoon of sugar in the liquid, setting light to the spoon until the sugar has caramelized, then dripping the liquid sugar into the glass of Absinthe. Adding an equal part of water then puts out any excess flaming, and the drink is then poured into a cooler glass for drinking.

From personal experience you will then wake up 12 hours later with a splitting headache, covered in god-knows-what, with absolutely no recollection of the previous evening! Seriously though, it's a drink that needs to be treated with a lot of respect.

When i used to serve it in the bar i worked in we'd do the shot in the glass, get a teaspoon put some brown sugar in it, dunk it in the absinthe, set light to it, wait for it to caramelise then mix it up quick int he drink setting fire to it all. Put you hand over the top of the cup to put the flame out, knock it back then take sharp deep breath. The number of huge grown men i've seen either fall over/run to be sick or turn white from doing this is huge. However i've replied to something similar to this before - a boy also died from drinking so much absinthe so it responsibly. And like Alfas says treat it with respect i ony did one shot and never believe people who say 'i can't remember ANYTHING from last night' but with absinthe i honestly couldn't remember long periods from the night before.

absinthe:it has to be la fee absinthe(68%) the best(in my opinion) and i have it one shot in a glass,then one sugar cube over the glass on a slotted spoon with mineral water dribbled through slowly,about 3 parts water to one absinthe . i have been very drunk on this at times but never had a bad time with it and never a hangover .... the best drink in the world !
