i just used to put a little bit of water in the base, crack the eggs into it and give them 10 second blasts till they were done. but occasionally everything would explode and i'd have egg allover the microwave, i could never work out why!

what make is it, have you checked online for instructions?

it's just a cheapy one from poundstretcher. My friend has just told me that she used to pierce the white and the yolk. The link doesn't say to do that though!
I'll just have to keep trying!
I have a lot of experience of this in a few different microwaves and have experimented!

My technique is:

1 Wet the poacher or add 1/2 teaspoons of water when the egg is in.

2. Crack in the egg, position the yolk in the middle and pierce twice with a sharp knife.

3. Put on the lid and put in the microwave. There is no scientific basis for the next bit, just trial and error! Position the egg roughly over the wheels of the microwave dish.

4. Run the microwave on low/medium low depending on your model and microwave for between 1minute and 1 minute 10 seconds for medium eggs. Add 10 seconds for large, take off 10 secs for small.

(typically a 1000watt low, 800watt medium low.)

5. open up and have a look, next time add or subtract 10 seconds until you get it right for your model.

Good luck!
Sorry, I should have added, that is for one egg. for more than one add 50% of the time for one egg extra. I have not tried 4 eggs

thanks. so you add the water on top of the eggs?
I also put the water on top of the eggs. ALWAYS PIERCE THE YOLKS.
crisgal, i would throw the poacher out along with the instructions!
i've had 2 different micro ones, and had no success with either. i tried all the various methods but the eggs always turned out either overdone with a solid yolk, or underdone with the white still uncooked. i now just use a pan of water and always get perfect results following delia smiths instructions
Hi crisgal,
I just put water in the base about half way up, may be a little less. Oil the poaching part on top, put the eggs in & pierce the yolk. Try 3mins on high, an extra min if not cooked. Depends on how you like your eggs! x
