Put eggs in cold pan of water on the heat once boiled simmer for exactly 2 mins.  Works for me

Put them in boiling water for exactly 4 minutes.

i like an exactly timed 4.30 mins egg (that's placing the egg into already boiling water)
If I remember right,Delia Smith said boil for 1 minute and switch off heat let stand for 7 minutes.Trouble is I kept eating all the toast whilst waiting!!!!!!!!!!!
I do 3 minuuts, and the yolk is nice and rnny for my soliders to dunk in ;)  Mmmm.
3 mins in already boiling water I mean!
Depends on whether or not the egg is straight from the fridge, or at room temperature.
Two minutes doesn't sound like enough but maybe they're small eggs.  I use eggs from the fridge and put them into cold water.  When the first bubbles start to appear (not boiling furiously yet) time three minutes.  Refresh under cold water to stop cooking and serve straight away.  Perfect for dunking the soldiers / fingers.  Putting the eggs into boiling water is OK but they're more likely to crack and either leak or let in water.

Right, I'm going to have to have boiled eggs every day now to test all of these out. I like the idea that it depends on whether they come out of the fridge or not becasue I hadn't considered that.

Cheers everyone
