For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I would agree that everything in moderation is the key. I have tried most of these diets and find weight watchers to be the best because they do allow you to eat what you like, in moderation.
Basic common sense tells you that eating junk food on a regular basis will make you put weight on - a balanced diet of lots of fruit and veg, lean meat, fish and limited fats plus plenty of water is what's needed. the occasional pig out won't hurt as long as it's not a regular thing.
Now if only I could take my own good advice and lose some weight - I know what i do wrong, I just have no willpower whatsoever!!
I have now lost 2 1/2 stone on WW diet - I don't go to meetings, I just have a points guide.
I am not really strict about what I eat and counting points, I really do just try to eat in moderation now, have stopped eating chocolates and snacking.
The points guide was good as I was not aware that some food was high in fat, and it does put things in context.
That said, I am still 2 stone overweight - now not clinically obese, merely overweight.
In reality, I am just eating sensibly and in moderation, but if anyone were to ask I would probably say I was on the WW diet.
So, if WW gave you all the information and points book etc. to follow and you got used to eating wisely, and some willpower you could just carry on without calling it a diet and without having to go to all those meetings. Weight Watchers is a very lucrative business!!
Actually if I cut down on cheese and butter and don't snack I can lose weight quite quickly.
Right, I am determined to lose half a stone before Christmas!

On a serious note I do have sympathy with people who have a genuine weight problem despite trying really hard. Just because I could eat all the pies & not gain weight I don't - it would make me feel ill. What does annoy me are those who are constantly obsessed & then openly admit to eating a whole box of cakes or all the crisps in a multi-pack etc. That to me is unnecessary greed. Just have a little of what you fancy.

Thanks, it has taken huge amounts of will power, but I do feel better for it - doiesn't help when there has been on average a big box of chocolates being handed round the office each day though!
I do think it is a case of doing what works for you though - be it eating sensibly, calorie counting, point watching, atkins etc etc. If there is a magic cure that could let me eat my ideal: 7.30 am 2 x buttered cheese scone. 8 am Fry up. 9am chocolate croissant x 2.
For lunch some pork pies, sausage rolls (just out of the oven) and scotch eggs and other siomilar snacks.
Diiner of a pizza & chips.....okay I don't actually want all of this but its food I can no longer have!

The only two diets I have ever followed successfully are a top sante one (lost 20lbs) and one from weight loss resources online which I'm on at the moment. Just found out they are both from the same dietician so think they just really fit in with my mentality and way of living.
I'd recommend www.weightlossresources.co.uk to anyone, a bit like weightwatchers but you get a calorie limit for the day and basically eat what you want within that number (you can earn extra calories by exercising). You need regular access to the internet but I love it and it's very good value (�9 a month!)
