does anyone else think the drink drive limit shoud be changed to zero tolerance?! i dont drink very pften and am fairly petite, i have just had one and half pints of cider and feel pissed. so i shouldnt drive a car, yet i would leagally be withing the drink drive limit? also i can be pissed after one glass of wine and i am sensible enough to know i cudnt drive, yet i would be within the drink drive limti???
common sense, if you feel pissed, then dont do the stupid mistake of driving, get a taxi...u will put lifes at risk and ur own, not to mention ur criminal record being created
A reporter did this on the Scottish news recently - she had enough to drink so that she was still legal (they breathalysed her) and then got her to drive a short distance and she was really unhappy about it - she felt quite tipsy and that her driving was impaired. Having been run over by a drunk driver, I never have anything if I'm driving and would be very happy to see the limit as zero.
How much you drink depends on different factors. A petite girl couldn't drink the same amount as an 18 stone man. Someone who drinks regularly has higher tolerance than someone who drinks occasionally.
1½ pints of cider (at a typical 5% ABV) amounts to 4.26 units of alcohol. Some people will be 'over the limit' after consuming 3 units of alcohol. Most people will be 'over the limit' after 4 units. So it would probably have been illegal for you to drive a car.
I support the introduction of a much lower alcohol limit. (I used to work on the railways, where we were subjected to random 'Fosters tests'. The limit for running a railway station is roughly a third of the limit for driving). However an 'absolute zero' limit might result in the conviction of someone who'd done nothing more than consuming a fruit-based product where a small amount of natural fermentation had taken place.
