If I use basic fairy cake mixture, can I steam it instead of putting it in the oven? Will it come out like a steamed pudding texture or will it be disgusting?

Thanks Dr. Captain Vibrasphere for the recipe! It sounds easy enough (I like easy!) so I'm going to give that one a try. Thanks everyone for answering so quickly!
Jam on the bottom/top is also yummy, my lot also love ginger pud - all done in microwave - it is so quick and easy. For best results put cling film on top and then slash the plastic. I cook the Christmas pud this way too!
To be pedantic it is the weight of 2 eggs in S R flour, sugar and marg - so if you have big eggs, your sponge is bigger :o)

Thanks for the tips Alliegid! I'll try the jam out and I'm sure hubby will love it (not sure about his waistline though!).
