You have to be aware that the flavour of one ingredient in cooking can be greatly altered by another ingredient. You may not like black treacle direct from the tin, but it won't taste the same when mixed with other ingredients and baked in a cake. Many people detest the taste of Marmite on its own, yet will agree that a teaspoonful will improve the flavour of many soups, stews, and casseroles. You wouldn't want to try a tablespoonful of HP sauce on its own, but try adding it to a stew next time you make one. (Don't worry - you'll find all the vinegaryness in the sauce will disappear, and the stew will have a lovely rich flavour).
