Can you ask at a police station to be breathalysed? I was thinking this morning as i woke up with a hangover and had to drive somewhere, i felt OK and didn't drink that much last night, but it is SO not worth the risk! i'd even pay for this service! (don't trust those ones in pubs). And just so you know - i waited a few more hours and had lunch in the end before i drove home!!  Just thinking it could be a helpful service, especially on those mornings after.  Anyone know? thanks

I don't know if they would, but it sounds doddgy if you are even considering it.  If you have drunk even only a moderate amount of alcohol, you should be considering that you are not safe to drive.  You should not be thinking in terms of assuming that you are safe to drive just because you are marginally under an arbitrary legal level.

It's a good idea- suggest it to Boots. I'm sure they would sell home-breathalysing kits- they sell home- everything else kits!!

A friend of mine went to the police station on christmas day or boxing day concerned about drink driving (he was going to drive to his parents' house) and they breathalysed him (he passed).

Unless you were living next door to a police station how would you get to it. And if you reckon someone would drive you to the police station can they not drive you to where you want to go to rather than the police station. Anyway police are far too busy in the station. Do you know how many forms they will have to sign even before the breathalyser kit is taken out of the cupboards.

You should always avoid driving with a hangover even if you are under the limit - you are tired an can easily fall a sleep at the wheel.

I'd just like to say - I would never ever drive if I suspected I was not safe to drive, whether or not I was over the legal limit, and no matter where I had to go. I was near the police station and the thought just crossed my mind.  On this occasion I had had no more than 8 units over a period of 7 hours.  Plus I only had to drive for ten minutes so I knew even if i was feeling a bit tired I could concentrate for that short time.  Don't want you all thinking I am a drunken waste of space who would risk anyone else's life for convenience! I have a small brethalyser, it cost me about �30 from the Gadget Shop.  It seems to be quite accurate and it is invaluable the day after when you don't know whether you are ok or not.  This would not get you off the hook if you were caught and were over the limit when it said you weren't (although it could make you look more responsible if you could prove that you have used it and it showed you were ok), but if it shows you really are over the limit and stops you getting in the car it could just save a life.  I wouldn't want to be without mine now.

hi i believe you can buy a self assessed breathalyser to carry with you but the best bet is not to drink if you have the car
