Hi tweenyb

If you're boiler is not heating up water and is smelling too, you need to get it looked at ASAP by a qualified Corgi registered engineer, as leaving it, is both dangerous and unwise.
The weather WILL get colder, and if the boiler packs up completely, you'll really be in trouble. The smell is a slight worry too.

I take it you dont have a warranty cover with it? If you do call immediately for a call out. If you dont, se if any of your friends or family know someone who is qualified to come and service the boiler for you. It will only get worse.

Best of luck to you.

range powermax 155x is the boiler type btw :0)
Otherwise, Yellow pages and check- a- trade on the internet, for local engineers in your immediate area.

we are renting and the rental co is meant to look after it but they feel there is no issue as last tennants didnt mind... they also didnt mind leaky fridge or mould in spare room either but i am going mad
WHAT??

You MUST tell the rental company to arrange for an engineer to come out and service the boiler.........you have no water heating up for goodness sake.
If they are reluctant, contact/go in person to your nearest Citizens Advice Bureau and explain the situation to them.

The Rental Company MUST, by law, address this fault, as the consequences may be very bad indeed, if not looked into.
Just because the last tennants did'nt mind, does'nt mean you have too. Please get it sorted, as boilers can be bad news if they go wrong!

Good luck yo you.
The smell of old fish would indicate there is probably an electrical problem.

CORGI doesn't exist anymore. It's now called Gas Safe.
if you google potterton, you will be able to gat a set of instructions / user guide free from the potterton boiler company although i dont see why you should have to chase around on your agents behalf.
i know this manual is free as i got one for my sons boiler, powermax 140, and use to service his unit. i don,t know what the old fish smell is about but i would insist on a safety check asap. my sons unit is in a compartment (a cupboard with a door) in his bedroom and i check his unit regularly, especially his flue which rises through his loft, with a telgan i borrow from a mate at BGas.
because the boiler has a poor reputation i bought a carbon monoxide detector to monitor for any potential leaks.
i assume you have a copy of the last safety check on the boiler which your landlord is legally obliged to supply you with, in writing?
it sounds like you need to be firmer with them, for your own peace of mind
Dont think anyone said this yet,if they have just ignore me!As you are renting the property, you should have a gas safety certificate issued by a corgi(or whatever it is now I think its changed)registered person.Inform the rental company and by no means attemp to fix the problem beyond anything the instruction manual states. Also,if you fix it yourself, you may be in breech of your agreement and if your landlord wanted to get funny with you, they may say you damaged the boiler.
p.s.safty certificates must be re issued every year.
p.ps I hate mould, got a problem with it myself....well not me personaly,my house.Keep getting told to open the windows more.So thats why there may be typos here,I am so bloomin cold!
