I have been told recently that when using fresh onions that any left over ( I only used half an onion) should be thrown away as they turn poisonous, (I always freeze the half I do not use), can anybody tell me if this poisonous thing is correct.
You and me both Red. I wrap the other half in foil to stop it smelling and put in the fridge. Mind you I use loads of onions and rarely have half of one left over.
This is all based on a spoof email doing the rounds making the claim that peeled and cut leftover onions turn poisonous. Yeah. Sure. There's another that says that leaving cut onions lying about will absorb any influenza bugs (including swine flu) floating around in the air in your house! Yeah. Sure.
As red says, no one has died yet. I use onions all the time and store leftover bits in the fridge for a limited time and so far have had no problems. Lofty I didn't know about the smell absortion thing but I will certainly try it.Cheers sog
My mum never stores left over onions in the fridge, always in the pantry and it never goes off, nor has anyone at home gotten ill or died from the left-overs.
This surely must be a joke!
