Did you mean with, rather than in?
I think he meens in,Smudge. I've seen this dish but can't remember what the bread was.
It would have to be a very thick crust then. Sounds very nice though, so perhaps I could try it with my favourite Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup - yummy! On second thoughts, it could get quite messy!

No, I just love it In A Pickle! Although tonight, it's going to be scampi, jacket spud, salad & French bread. (I know it's Sunday, but we had the traditional roast yesterday, for New Years day).

I have had a wonderful beef stew served like this, but can't remember where.  I think it might have been in New South Wales during their winter!
when i was in the states i had clam chowder served in a huge bread thing with a bread lid which i used to dib in then ate the bread it was served in ,i don't know if i was supposed to but it was really yummy,

The best way of avoiding leakage is finding the crustiest bread you can then slicing the top off and pulling out all the soft interior.  You then brush the inside with a little melted butter or oil and bake in the oven until crisp.  Nover tried it with soup, but have with v. runny sauces and the bread holds up quite well (better eat it quick just in case!)
