the only nice thing my mum can cook is a fruit crumble, but even that goes slightly wrong.

Even though we don't add juice to it, juice always bubles over the top . Also the crumble topping doesn't cook properly and is still doughy even when the very top is starting to burn, but if we made it realy thin, then even more juice would spew out of the top, so we can't win.

How do we solve thewse two problems?

I'd go with the ice cream option molly......less cooking problems.

mum can't cook custard like that, remember we're talking about someone that can't make shepherds pie and bolognese properly. . . .
Question Author
Even though its from powder, its still nice with the crumble, but i'm trying to find ways of improving it. . . .
1tsp Birds custard powder
1tsp sugar, drop of milk.
Mix in mug - fill mug with more milk, heat in micro till thick enuf.
Skimmed milk and splenda - what's wrong with full-fat milk and normal sugar?
Question Author
We try and be healthy and in custard, you can't even tell the difference, anyways we don't have full fat milk in the house, even dad has semi skimmed (because mum was nagging him for years)
Nooooooo - if you having afters then you have to go the whole hog (may as well just eat a piece of fruit other wise).
Question Author
if you can't taste the difference, why not be healthy.

We try to be healthy but for something like sugar in tea, we have proper sugar, splenda in tea is disgusting.
Splenda is saccherine....too much gives you the runs. Healthy is blue top milk, cane sugar & Tesco own flour @ 49p kilo.....Am way older than you & healthy (atm) :)
You have sugar in tea .... Ooooh GROSS !!!
3tsp in mug of tea x 20pd with 20 cigs - heaven :)
Aww, cr@p, tambo ...

I feel queasy !
Who's going to try my easy-custard method ?
Question Author
Tambo, if i'm only making it for myself i just do it in the bowl, i worked out how much of eevrything i need per bowl of milk so i don't even need to dirty the jug.
put the bowl in the micro. All this bluddi typing & you're not gonna try - last recipe from me !
find a crumble recipe with oats in it. These are always a winner. Additionally if you're always dissapointed with the crumble (coz there doesn't seem enough!) then times the ingredients for the crumble by 1 and half (keep fruity bit the same)
(eg if recipe says 4 oz sugar - use six)

Hope this helps C
What temperature do you have the oven on and how long are you cooking it for? Are you letting the oven heat properly first?

You could try a deeper dish is the problem is the juice coming out of the top and over the sides.
Molly...you're a walking contradiction.
LOL ummmm ! Her cooking skills have crumbled :-)
