Has anyone got a recipe for the 'Tablet cake' like the scottish people make, choc for preference, and what sort of a tin should i use? thanks.

It is almost identical to my family's recipe with the exception of vanilla sugar or a vanilla pod... like who in central belt or northern Scotland had access to such luxuries save for the last part of the last century? Few drops of vanilla essence is what we used. However even that is open to debate as neither my wife nor her family will have vanilla anywhere near it!
Trick is the final temp and the beating to a grain... if either are wrong it won't come out right. Also avoid any recipes that use more than a splash of milk to start the sugar off or (shudder) water. The recipe linked has tons of pics to help get everything right.

900g of sugar
100g of butter
The book The Scots Kitchen by F. Marian McNeill suggest using an enamelled saucepan when making Scots tablet. The Scots Kitchen also has tablet flavourings which include cinnamon, coconut, fig, ginger, lemon, orange, peppermint, vanilla and walnut and gives guidance on how to add these easily to your tablet recipe.

1. Melt the butter and sugar. Add the condensed milk and the teacup of milk.
2. Stir and turn up the heat and keep stirring until it reaches boiling point.
3. Turn the heat down low and stir for 45 minutes (chair and book optional!)
The book Nick Nairn's New Scottish Cookery suggests an optional ingredient of grated white chocolate.
Whilst the book Scots Cooking: The Best Traditional and Contemporary Scottish Recipes by Sue Lawrence suggests adding a teaspoon of pure vanilla essence to a tablet recipe.

4. Remove from the heat and beat 60 times with a wooden spoon. Put a wee bit on a plate and if it sets then it's ready to be put onto the shallow trays.
5. Score the tablet surface marking into squares and allow to set and get cold.
