I have a blackcurrant bush which has given me blackcurrants for a couple of years, but this year, although it has fruited, the currants are red (and ripe, so I'm not being impatient!). Can blackcurrants "morph" into redcurrants and if they can, why do they do it? Any replies would be gratefully received.
No they can't. Blackcurrants are a bit behind this year so wait a while longer and they'll become black! I live north of Paris and ours aren't ripe yet and I'm usually making jam/jelly at this time of year.
thank you both very much, but I have waited for them to turn black and they haven't! and I KNOW they were blackcurrants last year and the year before! I am totally confused!
