What is your opinion on barbecues being held in the front garden? Does anyone think it is ill advisable on safety concerns?
I have watched my new neighbours put a barbecue right by their front hedge, which not only is a fire hazard as the hedge connects many gardens and shrubbery, including mine, but also it's inches from a public throroughfare where people pass by.
The barbecue is over now but should I voice my concerns to these neighbours if they try this again?

no - i mean unless they are VERY stupid and irresponsible I am sure they were keeping an eye on it...so why mention it
I'm just glad your not my neighbour.
I don't see that it's any more dangerous than bbqs in the back garden.

I don't think your new neighbours will appreciate your comments, either.
No, leave them alone for heavens sake.
well it didnt cause a fire did it, so whats it matter? Not many people I know have them in front garden though.
Yes it is a bit daft, i think there may be a element of showing off here, also a child could have aproched the BQ with out them knowing for a split second and got burned, i mean a child outside the family concerned, who knows what the legal postion would have been there.

Well, there wasn't a problem this time, so how can you complain? they must have been behaving in a responsible manner! You can only really complain if things do go wrong!........Live and let live, until a problem arises, is my opinion, who knows, you may get an invite next time, if you're friendly and neighbourly!.............
It might be worth mentioning your concerns regarding the proximity of the barbecue to the hedge (in a casual, pleasant manner) to your neighbour. However a properly looked after barbecue shouldn't present any great hazards to passers by in the street.

I live on a cul-de-sac for traffic, but (because there's a footpath at the end of the road) it is a through route for pedestrians. Every few weeks,at this time of the year, the families at the end of the road find an excuse for a party. It might be because one of their kids has a birthday, because one of the grown-ups has a birthday or simply because they feel like it. (Last week they just put up big 'Street Party' signs). When they do, they'll often have several gas-powered barbecues actually on the footpath, on the grass verge or on the road. There will often be several bouncy castles and a disco as well, with little kids running around until midnight and the adults carrying on the party until 1 or 2am. While it can be a bit noisy at times, I've never had any concerns over the safety of what they do.

Whatever next. They'll be hanging the washing up there tomorrow - it being Monday.
Quite disgraceful.

if there's caramelised onions to go with the burgers just remember to give us a shout next time!
I am not aware of any typical hedge plant being all that flammable. I would leave it for now.
Used to have out front barbies when I lived in a flat in a run of 11 we had a 'roof garden' the neighbours just joined in...
Nicci...that would p1ss me off "bigtime" Fine, if they haven´t a back garden, but if they have, then that is sheer exhibitionism.
Not everyone appreciates the smell of burnt food and smoke.
What would i do?...........bu99er all
Buildesmate.....if they hung their washing out in the front garden, that would p1ss me of too......whatever day of the week......................unless they were "women´s undies" ,-)
nicci....have given it further thought.

I would ask you neighbours their thoughts on the subject and nobody else would support you, then I would do,as I said "bu99er all"

However, if people agreed with you then I would approach them and tell them that the neighbourhood considered their actions as "antisocial"............as I do.
My auntie in Cyprus has bbqs in her front garden (her back garden is only a small courtyard) for people on her estate, the residence take it in turns to host one.
We used to have a neighbour who BBQ'd in the back garden near our open bedroom window.

I wish they had used their front garden instead.

First bbq I ever did was in the back garden...........a brick job down by the shed which then caught alight. Not clever. Don't think I'd fancy having it the front though.
