We are going on holiday to Turkey soon and are self catering can anyone give us some idea of the price of food compared to UK. Is there anything we should avoid. Any other info would be good.

most food prices are similar to the uk, if you can find the big supermarket, which are all over Turkey and called Migros, then go there and stock up, bread is cheap, beer is 3 lira a large can,you can get a good bottle of wine if you look for 6 lira, a cooked chicken is 10 lira, about the same for a frozen one.
They have local markets where you can buy all your fruit and veg at great prices so go and buy a weeks supply, on the whole it is not as cheap as home shopping.
Buy the huge jars of bottled water to wash your fruit and salad stuff before eating it.
