29 Answers
I've just eaten a Sherbet-dab.G/children have been round today after tidying up I found it. Put it on the shelf to give 'em next time.
I could see it from my pc out of the corner of my eye. I could have sworn I heard it call my name.as well. I haven't had a sh/dab since I was a little girl, and it tasted oh soo good. Friends and schooldays came flooding back.
Have any of you got childhood fav sweets? I loved Shrimps, and sweet cigarettes too.
What were yours?

I'm trying to avoid the temptation to open the second bag!
Usually, though, when I buy a bag of sweets down at the Co-op it will be good old jelly babies for me, but my favourites (which I've only discovered in adulthood) are really the cola flavoured sweets.

I used to love stuff with 'bite'; Extra Strong Mints, Army And Navy, Cough Candy Twists - all bought by the 1/4 and occasionally 1/2 pound - scooped out of large jars and lovingly thrown into a white paper bag then twizzled !
Whatever happened to Imps - anyone remember them? Tiny little black square hard bits of liquorice with added menthol etc - they were sold in tiny little carboard boxes.
My ALL-TIME favourite used to be Victory Vs - when chloroform and ether were in the ingredients. Sometimes I would get through a half pound and my head would be spinning, I think this was probably my first drug experience at about 11 yo.

Oooh, I like all of those things as well, Answerprancer.
You can, I believe still buy Victory V and, if you know where to look, you can even find Imps:

I remember that although sweets were priced by the ¼ pound Vicory Vs were priced by the oz. You can still get the equivalent of Imps at chemists' shops. They go by different brand names, one of which I remember and which you can still get is Meloids. They came in a tin with a small hole in the corner.
Thanks for the link Buenchico - looks pretty much like the same thing, not sure why I remembered this ingredient "oleoresin capsaicin" but it stuck in my memory!
Yes Mike - Victory Vs were pretty hardcore, I have a distant memory of the day I bought some, ate one and thought "hmm, something's changed" read the ingredients and found that chloroform was no longer there - tha's when I stopped buying them.

i used to love, and still do the lemon sherbet/crystals you used to get, we used to call it something like kalei(?) - used to love eating it with a stick of liqourice.
i remember our corner shop selling it, and the lady owner used to scoop it out of the jar with her bare hands - no scoop! that were still everso slightly grubby from handling muddy potatoes out of their sack just minutes before, and weighing a quarter of the 'kalei' out on the scales! - eeeeweeeegh! lol ... but we didnt care! :o)
