Most weeks when I go shopping, I buy bananas and there is always someone standing there desperately, and with great difficulty, trying to cram their bananas into a small plastic bag. I just wondered what on earth is the point of putting bananas into a plastic bag? Any theories or is it just a rebellion against saving the planet?

if I am buying the seperate ones I get a bag because my bananas stay in plastic when in bowl too otherwise they ripen the rest of the fruit. I always get the really green bananas too.
You know you're getting really old when you decide to buy no more green bananas:)

I like my bananas just turning from green, I hate them over-ripe. How can I keep them green, as they seem to turn brown very quickly? I don't find my other fruit is affected by bananas, maybe it's the other way round.
I bought green ones other week and couldnt peel skin off, when I evenetually got in with a knife and ate a bit dried my mouth out like I'd eaten cotton wool balls. yuk. I'd love to know how to make mine last longer coz I cant eat them once there is a little bit of brown on skin
We have one of these, they keep bananas fresh for at least a week (although skins do discolour)

Although I've also read that wrapping them tightly in a tea towel and placing in fridge does the same job (and far cheaper too!)

I'm sort of getting a bit old (I know, a bit of reluctance to face facts there) but still like them barely ripe. My old Dad used to like bananas so ripe that they would be almost liquid inside before he'd eat them. Yuk.
Oooh might have to get me one of those joeluke, I hate throwing food away

I like my bananas ripe....
Don't keep your bananas near your apples in the fruit bowl - apples give off a gas which ripens bananas too quickly.
Why would you keep bananas in a fruit bowl?

The banana is a herb ... not a fruit.

(I'll wait while you Google it, to check)
yep it is, so why arent tomatoes in there jogger?
and dont need to google as I know it from various quiz nights :-)
Arent green bananas bad for your stomach?
-- answer removed --
very green ones are bad for the taste. Yuk have never dried my mouth out that bad since I had a spoonful of coffee for a dare
Which one, Butch ?

(you're not going to slap me around again tonight, are you?

... I've still got the bruises from last night!)
If you've got other fruit that you can't eat cos it's not ripe yet, put it in a brown paper bag with a banana and it'll ripen much quicker.
Tip of the day !
