I buy the following Sainsburys Basics range:-

Rice Pudding - Packed full of rice (thought this would be really runny)
Fruit Cocktail - Same as the stores higher priced brand except misshapen fruit
Biscuits - Cannot tell difference (in taste) between these and stores higher price brands.
Apples - Most of the time these are huge in size. Always very juicy. What's the catch?
Toilet paper - It does the job and you flush it away so why pay higher?
Tomatoes - Different sizes...that's all
Tomato soup - Very thick (thought this would be very runny) and tastes great.
Pickled Onions - Not as cruncy as other onions but fine tasting.
Crisps - Tastes good. Not as salty as other brands so probably for the best.

I find sainsburys overpriced with a lack of choice, that is just my personal opinion though.
I love Sainsbury's but also shop at Tesco, Morrison's. Aldi and Co-op.
I find the Sainsbury basic range to be excellent.
Agree with Cazz - I find Sainsburys really expensive with too little choice - I stopped shopping there ages ago (because of a long running row with them about trolleys). I shop in Asda now and I reckon my normal shopping costs about 1/3 less than it did in Sainsburys.
I liked Sainsbury's fresh bread rolls 4 for £1, they did 4 different types 2 white 2 brown. The white plaited rolls were the nicest, Guess which on they have stopped making..........Yep the white plaited ones. So I've stopped going.

We've just had a Morrisons open near us, so I don't use Tesco all the time any longer - Morrisons is much cheaper. We don't have ASDA or Sainsbury's in our town so I can't compare.
I don't like Morrisons - the queues at ours are always really long.
i buy their basics bog roll and 10p shampoo.
Aldi's my other option, I really like some of their ranges and their veg are fresh.
PS I get my bog roll at Farm Foods, £2 for 9, great stuff!
I buy loads of stuff from Aldi now - their jam is great, the kids love their cereal and I love their cider.
Sainsbury's instant custard powder costs 9p!!! and you can't tell the difference. I agree about Aldi though - great stuff.

Also buy Sainsburys Basics curry sauce. Large jaw for less than 10p. It tastes like the curry sauce you get from chip shops.

Don't buy anything else from Sainsburys due to price. Get other food shopping from Iceland.
I don't go to Sainsburys due to the overall cost and lack of choice, especially at the more reasonably priced end.

I'm a Morrisons girl, love their fresh fruit & veg, themeat, fish and deli counters, salad bar, bakery etc... and very good value for money.
