im just wondering how often i should change the oil?

after 10 uses? 2-3 weeks etc? when it smells?

is there a rule of thumb to go by?

i dont cook any fish or meat in it at all..just veg or spring rolls or something...so the bits left are from those things

thanks

I only use mine once...

Saying that, I don't have a deep fat fryer. I use a large pan instead.
me too - i didn't even realise you could use it more than once

you think chipshops just bin all that oil every day?
i know some people who keep the oil for months..but i don't think id like it that long...

as long as you sieve the bits out an dont cook strong fish or anything that will leave residue it should last a good few uses
i never really thought about chip shops!
One use?

Crikey, that's extravagant.

My fryer takes 4 bottles of oil. That's £6.00, to fill it.

I'd be reluctant to chuck away 4 litres of oil every time I deep fried anything.
throw it away after a week, Strange things go on in deep fat fryers, fungi and bacteria grow, oils oxidise, horrible things are produced. yuckkk
Crikey...must admit to being very lazy when it comes to changing the oil.....possibly every 6 months. Everything cooks fine, smells fine and tastes fine and there's no little black bits.

I suppose we use it once a week.
I didn't realise people used deep fat fryers any more. I thought they were top of the health hazard list!
Like I said Jayne....I don't have a deep fat fryer.
They are a bit of a bu88er to clean.
Well, thanks very much Joko, this thread made me go out and buy a DFF yesterday - i just fancied some home fried chips after reading :)
We don't eat chips, in fact we don't fry, but I have often wondered about getting a single-portion sized DFF - there are times when some things just don't taste right shallow fried. Anyone got one of these titchy ones? - is it worth it?
mine was titchy - £9:99 in robert dyas. Chips were nice last night. Only enough room for 1 portion tho
I was always told to throw it away after 10 uses. You can tell when its had it though; it goes very dark and smells quite gross!
