Dried fish

I recently went to Iceland, where I had some dried fish (Stockfish). Does anyone know anywhere I can buy this/order this in England??? Thanks

they have it in nigerian food shops. there are a lot in my area.

Asian grocers often have dried fish too.

is this fish eaten dried like some meats (bresola or biltong) or is it soaked like salt cod (which is widely available from asian and carribean grocers) ?

A trawl on the good ship google, doesn't really come up with much to help you.

Although this website for Ghanaians in the UK;

says that "dried cod or haddock (stockfish), imported from Scandinavia, is a common ingredient in many African dishes."

According to the old Bailey website,

On the 10th of July 1734 "George King , was indicted for stealing (with Richard Dyer , not yet taken) some old Iron, old Rope, 3 Dozen of Stockfish, and 12 Pieces of Beer".

So you could buy it in 1734. But that's no use to you now!

Am going to have a look for nigerian/asian/ghanaian food shops in my area - there must be some...*trots off to find the yellow pages*
