My friend thinks its weird that in my house that we warm our plates up before we put hot food on them.

Non of his family do it, even though I thought it was common practice, and even restaurants do it, and even warn you that the plate's hot!

do you warm your plates, do you think it's wierd (not) to?

Always warm plates for hot food, was something I grew up with.
I HATE having food on a cold plate, unless it's salad of course.
Molly I do it too, especially if I have the oven on!

Sometimes I have warmed them up in the microwave.
I agree Molly, plates must be hot. Also food put back in the oven to warm up,before
being served at the table.

horseshoes, of cousre if i'm having something cold like a salad then I don't but hot food goes cold quicker on cold plates. I don't know why he thinks it's wierd. Especially seeing as he eats out at restaurants a lot, so he'd have warm plates then.

I warm mine...

What are you having for dinner tonight Molly?
i eat off a slab of wood
sit on them while you cyber, they'll soon warm
I was always given hot food on hot plates when I was at home.I remember the first meal I cooked when I left home, thought I was great warming the plate in the oven...problem was the oven had been cooking jacket spuds and was too hot.One awful bang later the plate had shattered in the oven.My housemate was non too pleased I broke one of his plates and ruined tea all in a matter of seconds!oops
So after that experience I am a bit nervous of warming plates, but hate it when the food goes cold.
What's your best(and safest)way of warming the plates?

You have a jacket spud for dinner???

aya...I warm them in the oven. Never been a problem.
Question Author
why not umm?
I don't know really. I suppose I don't see it as a meal....it's more of a snack.
A jacket potato doesn't seem very filling.
Easiest way to warm plates and not crack them or overheat them is to give them a hot rinse.
