I've started compling all of my favourite recipes (savoury and sweet) in to a ringbinder folder, but what's the best way to order them?

I was thinking about ordering them under main ingredients but what about things that have say pork and sausage. Would having sections that separate the cold and hot starters and puddings work then split the mains up into the cuisine ie; chinese, indian, mediterranean . . .. work the best, or has anyone got any better suggestions?

That was another idea I had when i first started the folder, with the different meats, although most of the recipes i'll get will probably be vegetarian.
If you have the time, type all your recipes into a database.

http://www.recipecentersoftware.com/ for example, is a free one.

That way you're not restricted by meal type or ingredient, exerything is cross-referenced.

Wow, thanks naz I might do that if I find the time, even though i've already got lots of the recipes already written down, it won't take long to type them up. Although it would mean i'd have to have a paper copy of hem to have in the kitchen which brings me back to storing them in the folder . . . .
Then to back up your database, just file the paper recipes alphabetically by name. :-)
By colour.

Red food ... green food ... brown food ... etc.

Most of my food has different colours within the same recipe. . . .

Don't seem to be following your own advise do you mike?

"I have taken the Ed's advice and will not respond as a matter of principle to any post she initiates,"
B00... can I have my wooden spoon back please... need to stir the rice over on the other thread ;-p
Watch it Doc, I'm getting some serious abuse on another thread.
Leave it out doc and mike, this is a genuine post.

Molly - do you have a laminator? If you do, you could laminate the recipes before you put them in your ring-binder, then it's OK if they get a bit splashed if you take them out to make the dish. If you don't, now there's something you could ask for for Christmas, they are not expensive.
Grow up mike, it's getting tiresome. And you too Doc, give it a rest eh?

Sorry molly.
Point very well taken, Boo. Mea culpa. Will remember in future to start another thread.

We have a laminator thanks.
Is that an idea then? I've laminated recipes and it doesn't matter if you get cake mix or whatever on the sheet, it just wipes off.
