I have inherited a ships decanter and would love to use it this Christmas. Please advise correct alcohol it should be used for, we don't seem to agree.

Port - my biggest antique regret of all time was not buying an elm ships table which I saw in France (in a shopping mall antique fair in Versaille), living in St Germain-en-Laye in the 80s. In the centre of the table were the clips and wood frame for the ship's decanter and then there were 12 cut rounded notches around the edge to take the glass stems in - and it was complete with decanter and glasses. It was 800 pounds equivalent at the time - I do rue not getyting it but it was a fair amount of cash at the time but I hate to think what it would have been worth today.
