Can anybody please tell me what the symbols - that have appeared on road signs - mean? They are either squares, triangles or circles, usually painted yellow or black, some are solid filled.

Round our way we often get red or yellow triangles in combinations of numbers - they are signmarkers for vehicles on rallies, etc., to show them the route they have to take, without going to the trouble of putting up big signage. Ours usually tell rally drivers and bikers the way to get to the docks.
Diversion routes ... follow the shape to get from A to B in the event of road closures.
As Naz says. See bottom of this page
