Future historians will trace the decline of the British Empire to fish and chip shops switching from lard to vegetable oil in the second half of the 20th century.
Hmmm....5029, I've no doubt they did use dripping, but either you're mistaken when you say they still do, or Mr Ramsden is telling a whopping porkie - the statement on the website could not be clearer.
I can't imagine a serious retailer using animal fat without declaring it as such (use beef and you upset Hindus, use pork and you upset Muslims).
I've written an e-mail to Harry Ramsden's asking for clarification and I'll keep you informed if I get a reply.

I think the key word is "blended".....blended with what? Dripping?
I know when I worked in a butcher, the chippers used to come in for dripping. Also in a later guise, when I worked in a chipper, we had dripping in the main fryers and veg oil in the mini fryer for cooking Macaroni pies for the veggie students.
