Buckingham Estate Shiraz (14.5%) from Western Australia, £7.99 in Morrisons. This is a complex red with a fantastic jammy richness and is now a serious contender for top spot in my list of all time favourite reds. I chose it randomly whilst stocking up for my recent trip to the IOW and it's a wine I will not only buy time and time again, but one I will give as a present at every available opportunity.
Hawkland Bay NZ Sauv Blanc, currently on offer at under £5 in Asda. Those who know NZ wines know full well you can't really get a bad Sauv from Marlborough, but I must say this one is exception, even by their standards! Truly a masterpiece in winemaking!
:-)
If you have any suggestions for wines of the week, please do share.
Sounds lovely, Mark. I'm not familiar with Fleurie. I did have a bottle many years ago before I truly appreciated wine, but can't remember what it was like.
I'm just having a glass of the Sauv now but tbh my tastebuds are not terribly sharp right now.
Hi NoM .............. I've just demolished a bottle of St Emillon on my own watching Don Giovanni ...................... I think I'll need a lie-down............ Happy Xmas to you
sitting here after finishing all the veg prep, stuffing the turkey, making the trifle, setting the table, enjoying a glass of steeple block 2008 australian cabernet sauvignon. it's my favourite of the black red case our youngest sent as an early christmas present. it may not be my wine of the week but it's definately my wine of the moment :o)
will give the one you mention a go NoM, buckingham estate shiraz, sounds just up my street, i love jammy red wines.
Have an Italian pecorino white wine for a glass in a minute to be followed by a Domaine des Grands Ormes (07)
My find this Xmas has been a Los Vascos, a Domaines Rothschild in Chile and also a port, a Smith Woodhouse LV 1999 which is truly wonderful for 16-50.........my local booze shop Experience (Wines) in Truro was retailing both.
Good on you, Ethandron, and I'll certainly give yours a try. I love receiving recommendations for wines.
And I cannot believe I forgot to mention the Sancerre currently on offer in Morrisons (now down to half price - a snip at £6.49!) A wine of truly prodigious proportions.
Sorry... do you mean you are eating pecorino cheese with a white wine? Isn't pecorino a bit like parmesan or am I being incredibly silly (don't blame me, blame the meds)!
