I had a meeting today with my boss. Our last communication had been by email early last month, when, in response to her enquiry about my health I replied it was like the curate's egg. When I met her today she asked me 'what is the curate's egg? is it scrambled?'
I am pleased to report that I responded with true humility, even to the Punch line ;o)

Question Author
I would not have minded so much wingnut but surely my boss could have googled it, rather than wait all that time? Apparently she asked the one church goer in the office who, surprisingly, knew nothing of it. Fair made my day!
Do they still have curates, These Days?

Hi Alex - sorry, only just saw your comment. Misguided? As in 'off the rails' x
Thank you ttfn. This is what I'm going to tell my boss when she asks me how the job's going. She's too stupid to have much of an idea what it means, however - the 'bad' parts of the job centre around her.

On other occasions:
I have left a note on someone's desk finishing with 'mea culpa' as an apology for something that had not been completed. They asked me what it meant.
Another time I quoted the Order of the Garter 'Honi soit qui mal y pense' and was asked 'what is that the Latin for?'
Work is like a game of tennis......................;o)
lol ttfn, they must just LOVE you....you sound like me.
And me.
