For some reason I suddenly fancied some rice pudding today so I pulled out the can of Ambrosia which I knew we'd had in the cupboard for a while. But I noticed it is dated Feb 2004 and although it looks okay I'm not sure whether to risk it.
Do you think it'll be okay? Has anyone else eaten canned food this old?
I'm sure I've heard of canned food lasting 20-30 years.

3 Years ago at the back of the cupboard I found a tin of something (can't remember what) priced at 1s 7d from Laws Stores (closed over 40 years ago).
Now that's a bit too far boxtops,
but as you have tried your best I will put you out of your misery.

1970!

and recently she made a trifle and nobody ate it,they all though she had used the Angel Delight in it! LOL

Well, she doesn't usually make trifles.
July 1986 perhaps, or older still even?
Hate to admit it but I've eaten loads of tins that old (mostly found in my dad's cupboards when he died - not of eating out of date food I must add). Not too long ago they never put dates on them anyway. The only thing I didn't eat was a ten year old tin of custard which was a strange pink colour - must have reacted with the tin. Anyway as at this moment I am still alive and kicking but WATCH THIS SPACE!!!
I would open it and taste it. In fact I'd smell it first! If it seems ok and I was hungry enough then yes I would eat it. Dont know if it would 'do anything' though.
smell it and taste it. if it smells and tastes ok then it more than likely is ok. i'd defo give it a go.
Hope you didn't eat it Factor. I wouldn't chance it since it contains milk. You know what happens to milk when it's old. :-)
Apologies factor,
Looking at it,I seem to have hogged your post!

Thanks for all your answers, especially those of Invictas.
I've not been around this afternoon- been trying to help my neighbour find her cat which has mysteriously disappeared- it was last seen licking his lips earlier this afternoon. You won't say anything will you.
Get rid of it. IT IS A HEALTH RISK.
