@Redhelen can you do it without the syrup?
You would have to have something that will set hard to hold the cornflakes together and that is usually chocolate. I can't see it would work with only butter. Too soft and greasy. Besides chocolate is the thing that makes them nice.
Colette, you are trying to avoid chocolate, sugar, honey and syrup; is there a reason that you are wanting to exclude all these ingredients but are happy to use butter?
If you are diabetic you can buy fruit sugar or a substitute sugar and I expect there is a diabetic cooking chocolate somewhere - Thorntons?
Melting butter-then adding cornflakes will just give you fried cornflakes....it won't work. As others have said, you need an agent like chocolate, or golden syrup to hold it all together.
\If you don't wanrt choc what about marshmallow.....
I'd want choc..AND marshmallow.. ;-)
How will it stick together - it will be just greasy cornflakes, Get the chocolate in and some sultanas for good measure.
pastafreak - I have a recipe for you then!

Melt 100g butter with 100g toffee. When almost melted, add 100g marshmallows. Then add 200g ish rice krispies to soak up all the goo. Spread out into a brownie tin, cool and cover with melted milk chocolate. Yum yum yum :)
