Out of date eggs.........

I have a dozen eggs that are out of date, Is there anything I can use them for ? like a face mask or something?

I'm with slinky. Use by dates are useless. Crack one because you can smell a rotten egg very easily.

How 'out of date' are they?

The date coding on egg boxes tends to assume that they've been stored in poor conditions, and errs considerably towards over-caution.

Break one egg open and sniff it. You'll soon know whether the eggs are edible or not! If you don't have to pick yourself up from the floor, with the smell of hydrogen sulphide quickly pervading the whole house, it's omelette time!

Yes you really have to trust your nose, I have eaten yogurts two weeks out of date, bit wary of pate though,wouldn't eat that past 1 week out of date.

If they have gone off soaps, just chuck them, you wouldn't want rotten eggs as a face pack!

While there may well be some things that, according to their chemical analysis, you might be able to use 'off' eggs for, I can can guarantee that you wouldn't want to!

'Bad egg' gas (hydrogen sulphide) is what is inside 'stink bombs'. If you've ever sniffed it, you'll know that it's one of the most repulsive (and nausea inducing) smells that you could ever come across. (Also, despite the fact that joke shops used to be able to openly sell 'stink bombs', it's actually highly toxic).

If your eggs are 'off', you certainly won't want to be cracking them open, irrespective of any possible beneficial uses for their contents!

Don't crack open. Instead-place in a pot or bowl of water. If it-
sinks to the bottom and stays there, it is about three to six days old.
Sinks, but floats at an angle, it's more than a week old.
Sinks, but then stands on end, it's about two weeks old.
Floats, it's too old and should be discarded.

There are no such things as 'out-of-date' eggs, there are just good eggs and bad eggs ... easily detected with the simple nose-test.

Like Chris asked, how out of date are they? just go for it, I can't believe how many people throw food away that is perfectly ok just because they believe the use by dates.
They are just for producers to cover themselves (understandably) but they are a guideline, trust your nose!
