Ask Grannie!

She's dead !
Not sure!..........but you really need to have an even temp for sponge cake!.......Think your oven is too hot!...........needs to be about 185 = 190C constant!...............
That's what I hate about the older generation. Just when you're getting the hang of things and ask for those final touches they go and pop their clogs. You'd think they almost planned it like that.

Had oven 150 then tried 160 a week later !
Just you leave us older generation alone! I'm over sixty and have never baked a cake in my life. Pointless asking me - despite my user name.
Too much baking powder?

Think I am a bit generous with the baking powder will try again with exact amount !
I never use baking powder, just S R flour and my sponge cakes always rise well and look good so everyone says.
Using saltpetre instead of baking powder, maybe? : )
Have you ever cooked them in any other type of oven successfully? It does sound like too much baking powder.
I don't know but thank you for having a question title that made me laugh. Sorry to be unhelpful.
