small PRESENTABLE cakes that can be made in a thing with six holes in it

I have bought an oven dish and also bought a packet of lemon sponge mix which came with cake cups and filling and drizzle. Only had to add an egg, butter and milk. Turned out Ok but I need something a bit more up market.
I will have to buy some cake cups and I then need to know what else I will need to make something haute cuisine-TO THE SIZE OF MY OVEN CUP CAKE DISH.
I think these would look better sliced in two and filled with cream or fruit. They were not very light either.

By "a thing with six holes in it" do you mean a bun tin? (Six places to put the cake mix?)
