Cleaning Ready To Roll Icing

Accidentally added this to an earlier post but realised it should be posted as a new question, apologies for duplication-

- when using ready to roll icing, recipe says to use icing sugar to stop it sticking to work surface but I find any residue is hard to get off finished cake...any ideas how to remove residue icing sugar without snagging icing or leaving fingerprints? Thankyou

Put the sugary side next to the cake?
Try a damp pastry brush. Good answer Psybbo if you havent put sugar on both sides.( Ha Ha.)

I've never used icing sugar, I tend to roll onto baking parchment or cling film. Once the icing is on the cake I use the off cuts shaped into a ball and wrapped in cling to smooth the icing and remove the lumps and bumps.

A gentle touch with a pastry brush, a silicone one will be more gentle than a bristle one, will remove the excess. Then a ball of off cuts wrapped in cling will smooth out any nicks.

Thankyou everyone, yes a damp pastry brush worked well and left a nice glossy look rather than the dusty look i had before! Unfortunately both sides had icing sugar on where i had rolled it and turned over so i couldnt just hide the affected side.
Ecclescakes- thanks for your tip will try that in a bit re off cuts.
I always use cornflour not icing sugar it doesn,t get sticky and is much easier to smooth out and brush off
I used to use cornflour too, but last year went back to using royal icing which is really much nicer. I'll be using royal again this year too.
