Cake Tine Size

I have a cake recipe that calls for a 7" square tin which I don't have. Have lots of round tins, which would be the equivalent to use do you think?

So you need a tin with an area of 49 sq. ins.
An 8" diameter round tin has an area of 50.25 sq.ins., so thats the closest you will get.

Good scientific answer.
I would have put the round tin on a piece of paper, draw round it and then roughly square it off. Measure and keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the answers. I found I had a 7.5" round and am giving that a try, probably means it will just take a little longer to cook. Fingers crossed.

7.5" tin has an area of 44.17 sq ins, so it will be about 10% thicker than the 7"sq tin for a given amount of mixture, so probably need about 10% more time.

I used the 7.5" round tin and the cake came out beautifully. Cooking time was about the time stated. Thanks again.
