Never heard of roasting in clingfilm. I know it's fine to boil.
My first reaction was - nooooooooooooooooooooooo

But James Martin uses cling film for slow roasting

Can't say I have. I guess cling film doesn't leach out anything nasty these days, but I'd be concerned it'd melt all over the food :-) Unsure about it though, does the outside get that nice texture/flavour when all wrapped up ?
No OG...it doesn't get the texture. It's like it steams which is the way I prefer it.
I watched James Martin roast a fillet of beef in cling film the other afternoon on his Home Comforts programme .It must be cling film though ,not food wrap.
Similar to using those roasting bags really .
Sounds like a poor man's sous-vide :-)
