I'm making some pea soup in my slow cooker to a recipe I've tried before. While preparing the ingredients I pre-heated the cooker on high. When all was ready I transfered the soup to the slow cooker and went out. It's now two and a half hours later and I've just realised I didn't turn the heat down to low as per the recipe which says to cook for 8-10 hours!!
I'm still out and wont be back for at least another hour. So, would it be ok to turn the heat down when I get back or should I just let it cook on high for another hour or so?
Of course I'll check it when I return but I'm just wondering what other slow cooker users think.

It's hard to ruin anything in a slow cooker. I'd just turn it down when you return.
It'll be fine. I've left stuff in the slow cooker for yonks before, it'll just simmer away merrily.

Thanks both, it looks like I may be out a little longer than I thought.
It's going to get eaten no matter what state it's in :).
