Cost Of Cooking
12 Answers
On Saturday we did no cooking at all apart from using the microwave twice, for 3 minutes and 7 minutes.
On Sunday the day was much the same except we used the main oven for 2 hours at 200 degrees and 4 rings on the hob for varying times. The microwave was used the same as Saturday
The extra cost was 38p. I can see on the website exactly how much electricity was used and when and the usage was identical both days except for the cooking.
Has the media been exaggerating the cost of using an electric oven? Or is my cooker just more energy efficient than most?
In case you're wondering, during that 2 hours we cooked a large chicken, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, stuffing, apple pie, a small loaf and a fruit cake and a cod loin. On the hob, a variety of vegetables and custard.

I know the cost of electricity and gas came down on Saturday but I was reading headlines along the lines of '£2.50 to cook a roast dinner!' It hasn't come down that much.
I wonder if Ninja was behind the alarmist headlines :D

Tilly, I haven't got an air fryer, I looked in to it in depth and realised that my combi microwave does the same sort of thing in a similar time and has a bigger capacity.
It doesn't have a turntable and can cook on two full size trays at once and with the fan oven used in combination with the microwave it can cook or reheat some foods faster than an air fryer.
Obviously I couldn't cook yesterday's oven load in it.
