Just had two petticoat tails shortbreads and a mug of fruit tea.
Anyone else enjoy a cuppa in the afternoon with maybe a cupcake, scone, biscuit, cheese scone, slice of malt loaf, lemon drizzle cake, etc, etc, or even just a cuppa?

I used to bake a lot, using mostly recipes from a little book that was my mother's. Favourites were an almost black chocolate cake, Maryland gingerbread cake, and a streusil* topped coffee cake. I usually ate most if it.

We've enjoyed quite a few 'proper' afternoon teas over recent years, with fancy sandwiches, cakes, scones, and a bottomless teapot. They haven't half varied though, some of the nicest and most reasonably priced have been in garden centres.
One of the absolute best ones was at Danesfield House which was very posh but not the least bit pretentious, and the food was totally wonderful.
Another was in Edinburgh, I can't remember the name of the hotel, at the top of Princes Street. Very old fashioned but very nice.
Both of these were gifts from the children.
Anyone had afternoon tea somewhere unmissable (or absolutely missable)??
18.51. Not really posh but love tea out of such a cup. Its all part of a large set that many people have no interest now.
15 cups and saucers.
20 dinner plates
35 side plates 2x different sizes
2 big serving dishies
2 big platter plates
2x milk jugs
2x sugar pots
1x butter dish
One large tea pot
One large coffee pot
15 small coffee cups
Salt a pepper pot.
59years old and not a crack or chip to be seen anywhere or fading. A lot of these kind of sets are worth very little, this one is. It used to get used a lot, but not to much now. My other half also still uses the cups and side plates. Tea does taste better from a china cup. Not much point in just looking at such and not using it for what it was made for.😃
