In a Yorkshire chippy today I asked for chips and fish cake, and ended up with what we in Derbyshire call a fish fritter ,fish sandwiched by two slices of potato in batter ,( a fish cake to us is fish and mashed potato, fried in breadcrumbs )
Which one's which to you and where are you from ? xx
Im Originally from Tamworth now living in Kidderminster but Ive always thought of fish cakes as fish and potato in breadcrumbs too! Could it be possible she served you the wrong one or thought u meant fish fritter?
I live in South Yorks and I would expect to get what you received if I asked for a fishcake in our local chip shop. Must be just a local thing. The fishcake you expected I would buy at the supermarket from the freezer section!!!!!
Born and bred in Sheffield a fishcake is fish between potato slices dipped in batter and deep fried.I now live in Hinckley (Leics) and here a fishcake is mash of potato and fish in breadcrumbs. In Sheffield we would call that a risole.
