I found lists and lists on the net giving equivalents that never seemed to match up. In the end, I have bought a set of measuring cups (get from Tesco, Asda or Morrisons for max of about 2). This has solved all my problems. Now when I want to try any new recipe that gives cup measurements, I measure it out in my measuring cups, but then tip the flour (or whatever) onto my scales and weigh it in ounces. I then make a note of what it weighs in ounces. If the recipe is successful, I then transfer all my notes into my favourite recipe book, giving all ingredients in ounces ready for me to make next time. It really is the easiest way, and for 2 it is so worth it. The measuring cups will be the same for american or australian.
I am not sure if the American sizes are the same as the Australian ones. I did have a recipe book of American cooking and I went online (Amazon and eBay.com) and ordered a set of measuring cups. If Australian and American weights are the same then I suggest you get some measuring cups which will solve the problem.
