Suitable/useful gifts for troops serving in Afghanistgan

Hi,

One of my ex-work colleagues is currently serving as an army medic in Afghanistan, I'm putting together a gift parcel for him and have got a few bits and bobs together so far ( non-perishible foods, toiletries etc) i was wondering if anyone had any ideas/suggestions for things that are needed by troops/would make good gifts.

we have been doing this at work and yes there is alot you can get into a show box!!
the favourite is a miniture bottle of whisky/vodka/brandy placed inside the tube in a velvet soft toilet roll-both are luxuries out there!
Also, wet wipes, packet custard, foil wrapped sponge puddings, puzzle books dental floss..... basically use your imagination!

Hi, I did this last Christmas for soldiers in Iraq, and put in puzzle books, minstrels or choc that won't melt, deodorant and shampoo, playing cards, and two of the items recommended by a soldiers mum ,suntan lotion and aftersun

Is there some central organisation to which one can send shoe boxes for soldiers?

if you just take them to the post office they will send it for free, i put a thread up a few weeks ago with the afghanistan BFPO number on, and it has to be under 4kilos.
