You could use a tin of baked beans in the mince, or make a carrot, parsnip, turnip topping half one with those suggestions with half potatoes as a mash topping, worcester sauce or even brown sauce adds a xtra zing, or add some mild chilli powder to the mince when browning!!!!
Add some ground cinnamon, dried thyme and tomato puree to the meat sauce, for the topping boil and mash equal quantities of pototo and parsnip and 2oz grated cheddar-turns it into palace pie!! :-)
I add some finely sliced leeks which have been sizzled in butter until almost cooked but still bright green, put them on top of the meat mixture and then top up with light fluffy mashed potato seasoned with plenty of black pepper, top that with a little grated cheese and pop in the oven to brown. (about 25 mins at gas mark 6).
Use cabbage and/or spring onions in the mash and top with chopped, cooked bacon & grated cheese.
Mash is also lovely with crispy fried onions mixed through.

Can anyone help with a really tasty recipe for cottage pie that I can divide in to individual portions? Also, is this suitable for freezing - if so, what is the safest way to reheat?
Chop up fresh chorizo...not the slices, buy a whole one from the supermarket and put chunks in the meat mixture....also, use red onions and not normal ones. Yummy. x This is my usual ply for bolognese. You can also add sundreied tomatoes which are lush!
