I have a slow cooker which i use for cheaper cuts and things like soup and mince, but why does everyone put expensive cuts in them,at work one of my co workers is obsessed with the damn thing, she put a very expensive piece of topside in this humongous monster which could have served 30,actually catering for 4 with small appetites, with this mucus thick gravy, i switched it off, this prince of beef had been anilated so that i couldnt even carve it for the one service user that can eat normally, shrunk beyond belief, why to people think that a 1and half lb joint takes 4 hours to cook!!!!!

personally i would have the same opinion as you but.......iam one of the ones that rave about mine mainly because a) i can put it on before i go to work and if i get delayed or even manage to get away early its ready for not only me but my seemingly ravenous family who are usually 'starving and cant wait long' and b) they are also quite fussy when it comes to meat, if they have a slightly chewy piece of anything it puts them off eating anymore therefore creating expensive waste finally c) my new years resolution 2 years ago was to buy all my meat from my local independant butcher at the farm shop and i can guarantee his meat does not ever shrink. I also make lovely vegetable soups in there so that if im not going to be around the family can help themselves to hearty food thats ready to be dished up whenever they want it instead of looking for crap.
i could go on.....i leave bolognese sauce in there so they only have to cook pasta/spaghetti, again giving them healthy food instead of junk.......every bit of meat that i put in comes out edible by even the fussiest..........i.ll shut up now, promise!
I agree-slow cookers are great.......but WHY would anyone want to do their roast in one. Seems a contradiction at best..
I think I'm going to have to get myself one of these. The thought of lovely hot food all ready when I get in from work sounds wonderful. I won't do a roast in it though! I bet they make a lovely stew.
Totally agree horselady, we love ours. Merry Xmas all ABers.
