Does anyone have a recipe for this other than the Nigella Lawson one ? (which I thought was not as creamy as the one I had in a cafe and was trying to copy). Also I was not so keen on the heavy cinnamon flavour. Any alternatives?

don't know the Nigella recipe, but try ground cumin instead of cinnamon, and creme fraiche to enrich, we sometimes put in a red pepper when liquidizing this gives it a difference and a bit of a lift.
I dont know the Nigella one either but The New Covent Garden book of Soups roasts the butternut squash, melts butter then adds the potato and veg stock cooks until potato is done then purees and adds single cream.
