Hi rose,
I made some years ago, here's a link with a guideline. Scroll down to where the recipe is xhttp://www.goodhousekeeping.co.uk/index.php/chatroom/topic/5005
If you go by that rose & test they are firm & also with a skewer in the centre of the cake x

many thanks sachs, had a look and will certainly use that recipe.
Hi rose,
did you make them & if you did how did they turn out? x

hi sachs
I made fruit cakes that way and they turned out fine, for the xmas cakes i've now deided to make it in a large shallow tin for cutting into sliced like mr kiplings, just need to find baking times.
it was that long ago that i really can't remember the cooking times ,it would have been on a medium oven temp ,also as sachs suggested, test with a skewer when they look cooked and if you wrap newspaper tightly round the can it will stop them drying out at the edge , i can remember thinking that they wouldn't work and they would be dry and horrible but was very pleasantly suprised by how successful they turned out -
