hi has anyone got a good recipie for icing/frosting to go on top of cupcakes? I normally make mine using unsalted butter, icing sugar and some vanilla extract but it never turn out like it does on telly. Mine is always a yellowy colour whereas on telly its fluffy and off white, how do i get it like that? thanks
The recipe that I have used (but no idea whe the book is) tells you to put a certain amount of milk in too (no vanilla extract though - maybe that's making it go a funny colour?)
I use the same one all the time, not really very white, but really good for piping, holds it's shape and dries on the outside! .....let me find it................Ok...this is it!..............In a bowl combine the following: 3ozs butter, 1Lb 2oz icing sugar, 4 tablespoons milk, 1 and a half teespoons vanilla extract, beat together well, and then pipe or spread onto cake...........
No lotsofun, use the quanities specified, must be hard butter though, you should, however soften it (in the microwave maybe) it will then firm the outside of the frosting........
I use equal amounts of soft marg and icing sugar. Beat the marg well before adding suagr (this lightens the colour). Can add flavouring such as coco powder or coffee.
