I just have. Is lovely. I use Dolmio sauce, oxo, mushrooms, onion, mixed herbs, vegetable gravy granules, (lots of) garlic and sometimes brown sauce.
I remember the OXO advert with Lynda Bellingham crumbling the cube into the spag bol while the family gathered round the table! Never done it but don't see why not! Prob tastes quite nice :o)
I do it all the time!

grated carrots, other veg

this is a good one to follow

Thanks for the answers. I'll suprise my girlfriend now, then.
Here is a traditional Bolognese-similar to a recipe I've used for a number of years........No mushrooms....or brown sauce...or chilli paste.....and very delicious.

i've just made this for our evening meal. turkey mince, loads of carrots, 2 large onions, whole large carton of mushrooms, jar of dolmio, tin of tomatoes, one beef oxo and one green oxo, 6 tablespoons of worcertershire sauce, large slug of red wine, sprinkle of mixed herbs.
wasn't a traditional tomato-ish bolognaise but it was really, really tasty. i'd have put some chopped celery in too but i forgot i had it in the fridge.
I lightly fry finely chopped onions, add a couple of crushed garlic cloves, add the mince and brown it, add a spoon or two of flour, add a couple of jars of lloyd grossmans tomato and basil sauce, add in about 400mls of beef stock and a couple of finely grated carrots. Simmer for about half an hour before putting spag on (sainsburys spag is the best imo) Best spag bol ever!
meant to say that you need to mix the flour through fully and cook for a minute before adding in the sauce!
In the UK-any tomatoe-y sauce that's thrown over spaghetti is called 'bolognese'...when it isn't really.
I do. I never use the jars of sauces though! I like my home made sauce better!!
What do you make it with Mrs L? I start off with a sauce and then add in my own ingredients. Wouldn't know how to start it off?
ljdksa...take a look at the link I posted...
Thanks Pasta. I will certainly give it a go! x
Instead of tomato puree, I use Levi Roots Reggae Reggau Tomato Ketchup. Its great in bolo as well as with chips,or as a spread in a ham sandwich, anything you fancy really, its truly a great taste a little bit hot and a lot spicy, enjoy it :-)
Do hun...it may seem complicated at first...but once it's all put together-it just sits there bubbling away. Use the same principle for a meatless sauce.
Pasta's recipe is probably more authentic.

I just fry onions until they soften (in olive oil) then I add the mince meat and loads of garlic and fry until brown. I add a bit of tomato puree and keep frying to bring out the colour and then I add red wine and reduce it down. I then add passatta or chopped tomatoes. Tinned tomatoes tend to have more flavour. I add beef stock cube origano, basil , salt and plenty of black pepper and simmer for about 1/2 hr or perhaps a bit longer until the tastes have all blended and it thickens enough to coat the spaghetti, but not be runny. That is it really. You can add other things and choose the amounts of stuff to suit your own taste. I personally don't like it with carrots in it, but I often throw spinach in it to add a bit more veggie stuff. Easy peasy!!
Ooooh, and it has to have lots of lovely Italian hard cheese grated all over the top!!!
with a partner who cant stand tinned or fresh tomatoes i make a very simple "bolognese"

fry mince, add onions, mushrooms, oxos, then once all browned put in a tin of condensed tomato soup and simmer for a bit. I add peppers and grated carrots to get some extra veggies into kids.
But tinned tomato soup is tomatos Red!! Or hasn't he twigged!!
Thank you, Loftylottie. Appreciated x
