Serves 4

A moist, delicious chocolate cake that your children will love.  Chocolate cake always goes down well with both children and adults so for your next special occasion I suggest this easy chocolate cake.

This delicious chocolate cake does not have any flour in it. It is a great recipe if you are cooking for anyone who is gluten intolerant, and the taste isn’t compromised at all, actually it is even better, it is moist, rich, very chocolaty and extremely indulgent and goes beautifully with lots of vanilla ice cream.

A perfect fix for any chocoholic.

Ingredients

  • Oil, for greasing
  • 300g dark chocolate, broken in pieces
  • 200g unsalted Butter
  • 5 Eggs, separated
  • 100g caster sugar

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C or gas mark 4. Grease the base and sides of a 23cm round cake tin and line with greaseproof paper.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water.
  3. Whisk the yolks with half of the sugar until pale and light. Stir in cooled melted chocolate.
  4. Beat the egg whites until soft peaks form and gradually whisk in the remaining sugar.
  5. Fold in the whites into the chocolate mixture. Transfer the cake mixture into the tin.
  6. Bake for approximately 30 minutes in the middle of the oven, until just firm to the touch. Leave the cake to cool in the tin for a few minutes before turning out and transferring to a wire rack.
